Weekly Challenge #1 - Bring My Water Bottle Everywhere

Weekly Challenge #1 is an easy one...well I think so

The goal: Bring a reusable water bottle with me everywhere

Why: Single use plastics are some of the worst things for the environment, for many reasons.  It is a waste of resources - oil, energy, water, it is hardly ever recycled (and takes energy to do so), and kills animals every day.  Americans throw out 26.76 pounds of plastic bottles per year, and this can be easily prevented.  While all bottled drinks are bad, water is the only one with an easy replacement: tap water.  Tap water is almost always just as clean and tastes just as good.

The challenge is not for me to just avoid using bottled water, but to always bring the reusable bottle with me.  This way I can train myself to have it on me as much as possible.

So get ready for new pockets check before I go: keys, phone, wallet, WATER BOTTLE!

Below are some more facts about plastic water bottles

  • Every year, 17 million million barrels of oil are used to product plastic water and soda bottles in the us - not including transportation
  • Only about a third of all bottles of water consumed in the United States are recycled, meaning that about two-thirds end up in the garbage
  • Each year, over 500 billion disposable bottles and cups end up littering our soil, rivers, lakes and oceans, killing countless fish and animals
  • 14% of all litter comes from beverage containers.  when caps and labels are considered the number is higher
